Our Parish

On this corner of North Carlton, since 1968.

A house of prayer for all who seek Christ — built by the faithful, kept by the faithful, open to all.

History

A church for the migrants, kept for their grandchildren.

Built in 1968 to serve the growing Greek community of Carlton and the inner north of Melbourne, the Holy Church of St John the Forerunner & Baptist stands on Lygon Street as a place of prayer, sacrament and welcome.

We belong to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, under the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. Our liturgical life is celebrated in both Greek and English. Beyond the services, the parish gathers for catechesis, fellowship, outreach, and the care of those in need through our Philoptochos sisterhood.
